Getting a useful first answer

What to tell us when you get in touch

Four things get you a useful answer quickly. First, roughly when the house was built, because a 1912 floor and a 1975 floor are different assemblies with different failure modes. Second, what is directly below the noise: an unfinished basement, a finished ceiling, or another room. That single detail is the biggest factor in both how we approach the repair and what it costs. Third, whether the noise is year-round or only appears once the heating comes on, because a seasonal squeak points at wood movement while a constant one more often points at a fastener that missed a joist. And fourth, whether the floor only makes a noise or whether it also feels soft, springy or moves underfoot. Those last two are a different category of problem and we would want to know about them upfront.

Our Ottawa office

1827 Woodward Drive, in the Carlington area of Ottawa. This is an office, not a showroom, and there is nothing here to come and look at. Visits are by prior arrangement only, and every repair we do happens at your property instead.

Our Toronto office

4544 Sheppard Avenue East, in Agincourt South-Malvern West. Same arrangement and the same phone number as Ottawa: an office rather than a showroom, visits by prior arrangement, and the work itself carried out at your home.

What happens next

We reply within one business day

Usually with a couple of questions and a realistic range, so you know roughly where you stand before anyone visits.

Free diagnostic visit

We identify what is actually moving. There is no charge for this and no obligation to book work afterwards.

Written quote

Scope and price in writing, so you can compare it against anyone else or simply think about it.

Booking notes

The work happens at your home

Both our addresses are offices, not showrooms. There is no flooring on display and nothing to come and look at, because every repair is carried out at your property.

Office visits are by prior arrangement

If you do need to come to either office, arrange it with us first. Neither one is staffed for drop-ins.

Appointments are by request

We book around your schedule rather than running fixed slots, so tell us what suits you.

Winter is the best time to diagnose

A squeak you can actually reproduce is far easier to locate, and heating season is when most of them show up.

Contact questions

Do you charge for a quote?

No. The diagnostic visit and the written quote that follows are both free, and there is no obligation to proceed. If you decide not to go ahead, or to get another quote, that is entirely reasonable and it costs you nothing.

How quickly will you get back to me?

Within one business day. If you send photos along with your enquiry we can usually give you a realistic range in that first reply, which saves a visit if the answer turns out to be more than you wanted to spend.

What are your hours, and can we visit your office?

We book appointments by request rather than running fixed hours, so tell us what works for your household and we will fit around it. Both our offices, Woodward Drive in Ottawa and Sheppard Avenue East in Toronto, are offices rather than showrooms and are open by prior arrangement only. There is genuinely nothing to see at either one, because the work happens at your property.

Do you need to see the house before quoting?

For most jobs, yes, because access below the floor is the single biggest variable and it is very hard to assess from a description. For simple, clearly located squeaks with good photos we can sometimes quote without visiting, and we will tell you which category yours falls into.
