What to tell us when you get in touch
Four things get you a useful answer quickly. First, roughly when the house was built, because a 1912 floor and a 1975 floor are different assemblies with different failure modes. Second, what is directly below the noise: an unfinished basement, a finished ceiling, or another room. That detail shapes both how we approach the repair and what it costs. Third, whether the noise is year-round or only appears once the heating comes on, because a seasonal squeak points at wood movement while a constant one more often points at a fastener that missed a joist. And fourth, whether the floor only makes a noise or whether it also feels soft, springy or moves underfoot. Those last two are a different category of problem and we would want to know about them upfront.
