About Squeaky Floor

Squeaky Floor is a repair-only crew for squeaky floors, stairs and subfloors, working from offices in Ottawa and Toronto.

We do not install, sand or sell flooring, so the only thing we quote is the repair.

Our story

The Squeaky Floor Team finds what makes a floor noisy, loose or damaged and repairs it.

We fix the cause of the noise with honest pricing, careful repair work and a written quote before anything starts.

On every job, the Squeaky Floor Team focuses on a proper diagnosis, repairs made at the source of the movement, and leaving each room the way we found it.

Who we are

About the Squeaky Floor Team

Squeaky Floor works from two offices: 1827 Woodward Drive in Ottawa’s Carlington area, and 4544 Sheppard Avenue East in Toronto. Both are offices, not showrooms, open to visits by prior arrangement only, and every repair is carried out at the customer’s property. One phone number, (343) 353-8706, and one email, info@squeakyfloor.ca, reach both. The work is squeaky floors, squeaky stairs and the subfloor connections that cause both, plus the floor repairs that come up alongside them: damaged hardwood boards, separated laminate and vinyl seams, water-affected flooring and subfloor, loose or hollow tile, and flooring over a basement slab. We do not install new flooring, sand and refinish, or sell flooring or carpet, and that limit is deliberate. We earn nothing on a replacement floor, so we have no reason to recommend one, and if your floor is past repair we will say so and you can take that to an installer. We are insured, and we can send proof of insurance on request.

Where our housing figures come from

Our housing figures come from public records. Ottawa’s build periods are from Statistics Canada’s 2021 Census (Statistics Canada Census Profile), Toronto’s from the City of Toronto’s 2021 Census housing backgrounder (City of Toronto, 2021 Census Backgrounder), Hamilton’s from the City of Hamilton’s Housing Needs Assessment, and the four Mississauga neighbourhoods from the City of Mississauga’s community profiles, which use 2001 Census data. Neighbourhood build dates come from municipal archives, heritage district by-laws, historical societies and community associations, and each area page names the dates it relies on. What the new home warranty covers is quoted from Tarion’s Construction Performance Guidelines, 5th edition, updated June 2024 (Tarion). The explanation of why subfloors squeak draws on subfloor manufacturers’ published installation guidance.

How we work

Diagnose before quoting

A price given before anyone has found what is moving is a guess with a number attached. The diagnostic visit is free and carries no obligation.

Everything in writing

Scope and price, before any work starts. If we find something bigger once we are into a job, work stops and you get a revised quote rather than a larger invoice.

Tidy in occupied homes

Almost all of this work happens in houses people are living in. Areas get covered, dust gets contained, and the room gets left the way we found it.

What we will tell you honestly

When it is not worth fixing

Some noises are harmless and some floors are near the end of their service life. We will say so.

When it might be a warranty claim

Under Tarion's guidelines, a squeak from a loose floor connection is a one-year warranty item. If your home is that new, we will point you there before quoting.

When you could do it yourself

If you have open basement access and a single, clearly located squeak, we will tell you that is a reasonable afternoon job.

When we cannot promise a result

Where a squeak traces to settlement or a structural condition, a fastener will not fix it and we will not pretend otherwise.

What customers said about their repairs

5/5

We hired them to fix squeaking and movement in our hardwood floor. They identified the underlying problem quickly and completed the repair without needing to replace the entire floor. Everything now feels solid and quiet.

We needed an urgent flooring repair after several boards became loose and uneven. The team responded quickly, secured the boards, and corrected the uneven sections. Professional service and a high-quality repair from start to finish.

Robert

They repaired several damaged hardwood boards in our living room and blended the replacements beautifully with the existing floor. The team was punctual, tidy, and careful throughout the job. You can barely tell where the damage was.

About us

Is Squeaky Floor insured, and can we see proof?

Yes. Squeaky Floor is insured, and we can send proof of insurance on request. Ask for the certificate you need when you call, before anything is booked. Some condominium buildings ask for proof of insurance before they will book a contractor in. It is a fair question to put to any contractor, and the answer should be in writing.

Do you work in rental properties and condominiums?

Yes, with conditions. In a rental, the owner or property manager arranges the work and the tenant gets proper notice: in Ontario the Residential Tenancies Act requires at least 24 hours' written notice before a landlord enters a unit for repairs. In a condominium, the building's rules on contractor access, and on what is unit and what is common element, come first. Most high-rise condominium floors are concrete slab, so joist-based squeak repair rarely applies there.

Why do you focus on squeaks?

Because a squeak has a small number of causes and the fix depends on finding the right one. Much of the advice homeowners find reduces friction rather than stopping movement, which is why so many quick fixes last a few weeks. We find the connection that is moving and close it, and we tell you when a squeak is a do-it-yourself job or a Tarion warranty matter rather than a paid repair.

Want a repair quote from a crew that does not sell flooring?

Free written quote, no obligation. Call, or send photos of the floor and of whatever is underneath it.
