Port Credit holds the oldest housing in Mississauga and it is worth being precise about the shape of it. The village plot was surveyed and the town site laid out in 1834, a fire destroyed much of it in 1855, the St Lawrence Starch Company was founded in 1889, and it incorporated as a village in 1914 and a town in 1961 before joining Mississauga in 1974. By construction period, 14.1 per cent of dwellings predate 1946 and 95.1 per cent predate 1981, which is the highest pre-1946 share of the older Mississauga communities. The caveat is that only about 21 per cent of dwellings here are single-detached, with apartments making up the majority, so the ground-related housing where we do most of our work is a smaller pool. Port Credit Village on the old Starch Works site was completed in 2005 and Brightwater on the former refinery lands is newer still.

We do work on floors in apartments and condominiums, though only about 21 per cent of Port Credit dwellings are single-detached so the ground-related pool is smaller here than in most areas. In a multi-unit building you will need to confirm contractor access and what counts as unit property with your property manager first.

Is the housing at Port Credit Village or Brightwater old enough to squeak from age?

No. Port Credit Village was built on the former Starch Works site and completed in 2005, and Brightwater on the old refinery lands is more recent again. Those are modern floor systems, so a noise there would be a construction or floating-floor issue rather than decades of accumulated movement.
